Mike davies & Irene Copp
Mike Davies & Irene Copp @ Orpington Folk Club, the Change of Horses 2011

Otherwise known as ‘Celtic Fringe’.  They are active members of the Surrey folk club scene.  They have been singing together for nearly ten years and their repertoire covers traditional Scottish, English and American songs as well as some pop and modern country.

Event Review from Steve Clarke...

As it was their performance (Celtic Fringe) included an excellent choice of songs, some of which begged for (and received) audience participation in the choruses and they received the highest accolade from Russ, a founder member of ...the Club:
" Very good.  You did songs I had not heard before".

Again a duo the Club should not hesitate to book again.   It's always a bit of a lottery going to see performers about whom you know very little and have never heard play and sing.  Last night was the first time I had heard Mike Davies and Irene Copp, otherwise known as "Celtic Fringe" who were billed as: "active members of the Surrey folk club scene."  Well lucky Surrey. Ther...e was immediate rapport with the audience and, despite Irene being handicapped by a dreadful cold, they harmonised immaculately.   Having now had the benefit of listening to their CD (which they offer in return for a donation to Cancer Research) I really look forward to seeing them again when they can perform the full range of their repertoire.

Phil Burchell & Karen Ritson
Phil Burchill & Karen Ritson

Popular local guitarist, Phil, returns as a duo this time featuring the marvellous and very busy singer Karen Ritson.  (Taking a night off from performing with her rock band Alibi).  They perform carefully chosen contemporary songs.

Event Review from Steve Clarke...

Well Phil Burchell is certainly popular - a packed Folk Club welcomed him and Karen Ritson. Despite missing his band and Steve Shorey's guest guitar solos, Phil took Karen through her paces and they worked very well as a duo.   A bit daunting for Phil as his guitar tutor, the inimitable Den Bellamy, was sitting in the ...front row.   Another very enjoyable evening - the Orpington Folk Club guest list is proving to be second to none.
