Monroes revenge is a British group consisting of Dave Plane (guitar, vocals), Richard Partridge (fiddle, vocals), Dick Embery (double bass) and Joe Hymas (mandolin, vocals) that play some scintillating bluegrass, comparable with many of the American bands. They are described by the Maverick Festival as British bluegrass at its best.
Monroe's Revenge was a name first used by Roger Blackbourn in a scratch band put together with mandolinist Randy Gambil for the Ash County Fiddlers' Convention, North Carolina, in 1987. Since then the band has gone through many incarnations, but the current line-up, which has been together since 2003, has taken the band from strength to strength.
